Robert HUME

Extended Description
Lieutenant General Robert Hume, G.C.B., Colonel of The Border Regiment 1903 - 1909. Born 23rd November 1828 and died at Dehra Dun, India 5th February 1909.
"He entered the army in 1847 and served throughout the Crimean Campaign in 1854-55 and the Bhootan Expedition of 1865. Commanded Sangor Dist 1874-1877. Allahabad Div 1879 - 80. S Afghanistan Field Force 1880 - 81. Quettar Divn 1881 and Lahore Div 1881-84. He commanded the 55th Regiment, 16 years 1858 - 74 and was greatly beloved and respected by all ranks. He was Colonel of the K.O.Y.L.Infantry 1893 - 03."
This memorial is erected by the officers past and present of the Border Regiment as a token of respect.

He was the husband of Jane Elizabeth nee Brown who he married in 1872. He lived or was connected the United Service Club, Pall Mall, Middlesex.
