DOWELL Richard Thomas DOWELL, Private, 11872, 6th South Lancashire Regiment, Wounded in Gallipoli and died of his wounds in Malta, 1st September 1915. Native of Liverpool, Lancashire. Son of William and Elizabeth of 67 Woodruff Street, Liverpool. Occupation in 1911 working in a tobacco factory.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 31st August 1914 aged 21 years and 8 days, occupation, labourer. After he had completed his training he embarked for Gallipoli from Avonmouth on the 13th June 1915. Some time later while in action he was shot in both arms and legs (sprayed by machine gun fire). He was treated in the field and then later sent to Malta for further treatment. On the 1st September 1915 he died of his wounds in a Military Hospital. No record of when he was wounded or sent to Malta.
CHANTER, Henry, Private, 12571, 9th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters. Wounded in action in Gallipoli and died in Malta, 1st September 1915. Native of Basingstoke, Hampshire. Son of Ann, now remarried to a Bennett.
RILEY, Thomas William. Private, 1329, 1st/4th Battalion, Essex Regiment, died 2nd September 1915. Native of Netteswell Cross, Essex, Born in 1897 to Arthur and Mary Elizabeth of The Post Office, general store and grocers, Netteswell Cross.
