An Impressing Structure: The New Town Hall of Celle, Germany

In no more than 30 months, one of the largest military barracks in Europe has been converted to a modern service establishment: The New Town Hall of Celle, Germany.

Built in 1869 in neo-gothic style, the former "Heidekaserne" barracks on "77er Strae" were refurbished for an overall sum of almost 40 million Deutschmarks. Listed for preservation as an architectural monument, the brick structure (measuring 181 meters across the front and 25 meters in height) with its landmark twin towers now provides ample floor space (15,120 square meters) for 320 town employees, who were previously scattered across the town in 28 different office locations. The conversion project involved 48 contractors, among which DOK SYSTEME GmbH was responsible for the planning of the data and telecommunications networks.

Sure wasn't like that in my day! Where's the square? Where's the POL point? Bloody bureaucrats!!
