Raskelf War Memorial, Yorkshire.
It is located in the churchyard of St Mary, Raskelf, Yorkshire.

II MEMORY
To the ever glorious memory of the men from this parish who gave their lives in the Great War 1914 - 1919


SHEPHERD William James. Corporal 300452, 8th Durham Light Infantry died 8th April 1918 aged 25. Son of James and Mary Shepherd of Village Farm, Raskelf, Yorkshire. At rest in St Mary the Virgin churchyard, Raskelf, Yorkshire.

APPLETON Henry Hodgson. Corporal 18483 East Yorkshire Regiment who died in France 1st July 1916 aged 25. Son of James Henry and Annie Augusta Appleton of Easingwold, Yorkshire. Employee of Messrs. Edwin Davis & Co., Market Street, Hull. For King and Country. Commemorated on his parents memorial in St Mary the Virgin churchyard, Raskelf, Yorkshire and on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

HODGSON Maurice Robert. Private 4449 28th Australian Infantry died between 3rd and 6th November 1916. Son of John and Sarah Hodgson, of Estate Office, Raskelf, Easingwold, Yorkshire, England. At rest in Warlencourt British Cemetery, France.

WADDINGTON George Thomas. Private (CWGC have L/Cpl) 241562 1/5th Yorkshire Regiment killed in action 23rd April 1917. Born at Raskelf and enlisted at Scarborough, both in Yorkshire. He was the brother of William who was granted a war gratuity on the 4th September 1917, revised on the 14th October 1919. At rest in Bucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, France.

HORNER Frederick. Private 60448, 9th Yorkshire Regiment. Son of the late William and Matilda Horner, of Raskelf, Easingwold, Yorkshire. At rest in Cross Roads Cemetery, Fontaine-Au-Bois, France.

HALL John. Private 26323 8th Yorkshire Regiment (Yorkshire Hussars), killed in action 7th June 1917 He was born in 1892 at Easingwold, Yorkshire to William and Jane. In 1911 his parents and siblings were living at Raskelf. He is Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

OXTOBY William. Private 203104 1st King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment, formerly Gunner 2905, Royal Field Artillery. Died at home of sickness 6th November 1918. He was born in 1896 at Buttercambe, Yorkshire to Robert and Mary, In 1901 he was living with his mother and siblings (father Thomas was not at home when the census was taken) living in a cottage in Buttercrambe. His father who was granted a war gratuity on the 17th May 1919. At rest in St Mary the Virgin churchyard, Raskelf, Yorkshire.

BROWN Ambrose. Private 119564 26th Machine Gun Corps, formerly 49410 West Yorkshire Regiment died of wounds 27th March 1918. Born at Raskelf and enlisted at Ripon Garrison, both in Yorkshire. His widow, Ada was granted a war gratuity on the 4th July 1918, revised 14th January 1920, now called Ada Holmes. At rest in Humbercamps Communal Cemetery Extension, France.

GORDON John Charles. Leading Seaman D/SSX22680, Royal Navy on HMS Diamond died 27th April 1941 aged 24. Son of Thomas Charles and Ethel Gordon, of Raskelf, Yorkshire and brother of James who also fell. Commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon.

GORDON James. Able Seaman P/SSX29506, Royal Navy on HMS Penelope died 18th February 1944 aged 22. Son of Thomas Charles and Ethel Gordon, of Langtoft, Yorkshire and brother of John Charles who also fell. Commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Hampshire.
