Patricia CASHMORE. Nursing Sister EDCC/371 (EAMNS). East African Military Nursing Service
Born 23 July 1905 at Port Pirie to Arthur Brook Cashmore and Annie Amelia Cashmore, nee Whallin of Northcote, Victoria, Australia. She qualified in Surgical Nursing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in August 1930. She was on holiday when World War 2 broke out. On the 6 February 1944 she embarked on SS Khedive Ismail from Kilindini Harbour at Mombasa, Kenya to Colombo, Ceylon in Convoy KR-8. 12 February 1944 it was attacked and sunk by two torpedoes fired from a B1 type Japanese submarine in the Indian Ocean, 1,297 perished. She died at 39 years
Commemorated on the East Africa Memorial, Keyna
also on the Port Pirie and District War Memorial.
