The Fleet battleship Orel was the 3 ship of the Borodino class. Though built with Borodino by a admiralty design Orel had a different machinery and internal hull construction. During her fitting in Kronstadt the ship sunk in shallow water due to the personal negligence. Refloated she hardly managed to get in time to the squadron departure.
She only in her class survived (41 killed, 87 wounded) in the Tsushima Battle and kept 3 main guns for the further resistance and her machinery were intact and could provide 17 knots Still the ship did not an attempt to escape and followed the admiral Nebogatovs capitulation order. The Japanese brought her in Sesebo and after a complete refit in 1907 she joined the Japanese Navy. During the refit all her 6 turrets were removed and so did the midship 75mm. battery. A replacement of 6 8 guns was added. Apparently the Japanese replaced also all her 12 guns, because 1 of her guns was completely destroyed.
