This cross is erected by the parishioners of Olveston to the Glory of God and in proud and grateful memory of those who gave their lives for their country in the Great War 1914-1918.

GEORGE William Robert The following is inscribed on his parents memorial Olveston churchyard, Gloucestershire. Private William Robert youngest son (of Charles Robert and Annie) Kings Shropshire Light Infantry killed in action in France 8th February 1917 aged 25. His elder brother Albert also fell. CWGC have W George, private 56825, 2nd Welsh Regiment (death same details) son of Mrs C R George of Oldown Hill, Tockington, Gloucestershire. Buried at Hem Farm Military Cemetery, Hem-Monacu, Somme, France
Some military records have been found (Burnt Documemnts) He joined up on the12th October 1914 as Pte 14862, K.S.L.I. and he transferred to the Welsh Regt as Pte 56825 on the 14th September 1916. and died of wounds the 8th February 1917 He served twice in France 27th September 1915-27th February 1916 and 9th July 1916 to his death 8th February 1917
