BOARDMAN Thomas Henry. Lieutenant Colonel, D.S.O., 8th Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, died 5th August 1917 aged 40. He was the son of E. C. and M. Boardman, of Ratcliffe, Manchester and he was the husband of H. S. Boardman, of "Kenyon Hall," Kenyon, Manchester. M.A., Peterhouse, Cambridge. Commemorated on the Brandhoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
BARROW James, Quartermaster. and Honorary Lieutenant , 8th Royal Berkshire Regiment. He died 1st June 1916 aged 47. He was the son of George Barrow and was the husband of Alice Barrow, of 12, Engadine Street, Southfields, London. He is at rest in Noeux-Les-Mines, Communal Cemetery, France.
MASON William. (M.M.) Sergeant 15719, 8th King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment. Died 17th June 1918 aged 21. He was the son of Richard and Mary Elizabeth Mason, of Brook House Farm, Twiss Green, Culcheth, nr. Warrington. He is at rest in Sandpits British Cemetery, Fouquereuil, France.
HALLIWELL Joseph Stanley. Lance Sergeant G/50090, 11th Middlesex Regiment, formerly Royal Fusiliers died 9th December 1916 aged 21. He was the son of Stanley Halliwell, of Birch Tree Cottage, Croft, Warrington, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
WHITTLE William. Lance Corporal 71984, 1st Royal Fusiliers died 14th June 1918 aged 28. He was the son William and Ellen Whittle, of Oakwood Farm, Risley, Lancashire. He is at rest in Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France.
FAULKNER Frank. Lance Corporal, 379371 Labour Corps, Demonstration Company, 5th Army School, British Expeditionary France, formerly Private 74413, South Lancashire Regiment, died 16th March 1918 aged 26. He was the son of Thomas and Fanny Jane. He is at rest in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 6th December 1915 and was posted to the army reserve. He was aged 23 years and 353 days, he lived at Rose Cottage, Culcheth and was by occupation a stock keeper. He was mobilised on the 12th June 1917 to sent to the South Lancashire Depot, the next day he was sent to the 107th Training Reserve Battalion. On the 28th September 1917 he was posted to the British Expeditionary Force , France. In France he was then transferred to the 26th Labour Corps. On the 16th March 1918 at 6.pm he died of appendicitis and secondary haemorrhage at the Middlesex Hospital, Berners Street, London. At the time of his death he was Lance Corporal 397371, of the Headquarters area employment company, 5th Army Infantry School.

HILL Colonel Lester. Stoker 1st Class K/37467, Royal Navy, H.M.S. Tornado lost at sea on the 23rd December 1917 aged 20. He was the son of Joseph and Annie of 413, Warrington Road, Culcheth, Lancashire . He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire and also on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon. Reg of Seaman's Services 1900-1928, Ancestry. His first ship he served on was H.M.S. Vivid 2nd November 1917 to 17th January 1917., other ships, Woolwich, Medow and DavidII. He joined Tornado on the 30th October 1917.
CRYER, Charles Henry. Private 24782, 10th Cheshire Regiment killed in action 14th July 1916. He was the husband of Ellen, nee Hampson. She was granted a War Gratuity on the 19th March 1917. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
LEATHERBARROW Edwin. Private 242004, 1/5th East Lancashire Regiment, formerly Private 15720, Royal Lancashire Regiment killed in action on the 15th July 1918 aged 22. He was the son of William and Mary of Wigshaw Lane, Culcheth. He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
DAINTITH George. Private 27821,1st King's Liverpool Regiment died 25th June 1916. He is at rest in Cambrin Military Cemetery, France.
HESFORD James. Private 27782, 1st King's Liverpool Regiment died 10th January 1916 aged 43. He was the son of James and Elizabeth of New Carr Farm, Landside, Leigh, Lancashire. He is at rest in Bethune Town Cemetery, France.
POWNALL Thomas James. Private 91570, 5th King's Liverpool Regiment died of wounds 25th September 1918 aged 30. He was the son of James and Sarah of Culcheth, near Warrington, Lancashire. He is at rest in Houchin British Cemetery, France.
HENDERSON Ebenezer. Private 1373, 1/7th Lancashire Fusiliers, killed in action 21st July 1915 at Gallipoli. He was born at Kirkcaldy, Fifeshire, Scotland and he enlisted at Salford, Lancashire. He was the son of Mrs Crossley of 1A, Pimlot, Street, Pendleton, Manchester. He is commemorated on a special memorial at Redout Cemetery, Helles, Turkey including Gallipoli.
LAWTON Alfred. Private 65180, 17th Lancashire Fusiliers died 31st October 1918. He is at rest in Vichte Military Cemetery, Belgium.
WATERS Thomas. Private 3925, 1st Lancashire Fusiliers died 25th April 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey, including Gallipoli.
WILSON William. Private 6493, 1st Lancashire Fusiliers died 25th April 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey, including Gallipoli.
CHARNOCK Jack Rudyard. Private M/323122 M.T. Spare Parts depot, Mechanical Transport (M.T.) Royal Army Service Corps died 30th June 1918 aged 23. He was the son of Harry Morton Charnock and Miriam Elizabeth Charnock, of "Homecot," 85, Hob Hey Lane, Culcheth, Warrington, Lancashire. He is at rest in Upanga Road Cemetery, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
CLARE Edgar, (He is commemorated on the memorial as the following) Private Mechanical Transport (M.T.) Royal Army Service Corps No record could be found for a an Edgar or a Clare serving with the RASC at his death. However there is a Private Bertram Edgar Clare, Private 20531, 1st Border Regiment , formerly Private 50340, Royal Army Medical Corps who was killed in action on the 23rd October 1916. He was born at Sale, Cheshire and lived at Kenyon, near Leigh, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 20th January 1915 and was posted the same day to the R.A.M.C. He was aged 21 years and 275 days old, he was an electrician and he lived with his parents, Levi and Mary at High Peak Cottage, Keynon, Leigh, Lancashire. He was serving with the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force on the 23rd September 1915 On the 2nd June 1915 he was transferred to the 3rd Border Regiment. On the 23rd September 1915 he was posted to the 1st Battalion, Border Regiment .On the 10th October 1915 he was with 1st Battalion at the Dardanelles. He embarked for France on the 10th March 1916. He was admitted to hospital with an abscess to his lower face on the 15th May 1916 and he was treated at 87th Field Ambulance. He was then transferred to 29th Casualty Clearing Station on the 17th May, and on the 18th transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers. From there he was discharged fit for service on the 15th June 1916 to 29th Infantry Base Depot, Rouen. On the 5th July 1916 he rejoined his unit at the front and he was killed by a shell explosion on the 23rd October 1916. The last address for his mother, who was now a widow, was given as 29, Carr Lane, Lowton St Mary's, Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire.
HOUGHTON Harold. Rifleman Z/2537, A Company, 2nd Rifle Brigade died 24th March 1915 aged 25. He was the son of Thomas and Mary Ann Houghton, of Risley, near Warrington, Lancashire. He is at rest in Croft Unitarian Chapleyard, Lancashire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted at Winchester on the 2nd September 1914 and posted to the Army Reserve. He was aged 24 years and 4 months and was by occupation a labourer. His father, Thomas was his next of kin and he was living at the Old Noggin Inn, Risley, near Warrington, Lancashire. He was mobilized on the 19th January 1915. He was in action in France when he was shot, and wounded in the head on the 15th March 1915 and he was treated at the 11th General Hospital. On the 24th March 1915 he was transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, Norwich and he died the same day in the hospital. His parents were now living at 674 Warrington Road, Risley.
GIBBON Thomas. Private Royal Engineers It may be the following. GIBBONS, Thomas, Sapper 167270, 126th Field Company, Royal Engineers, killed in action 22nd May 1918. He enlisted at Earlestown, near Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
GREEN John, killed in France on the 2nd August 1917 aged 27. He was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth of 483, Newchurch, Culcheth, Lancashire. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire. The CWGC have the following. Gunner 174387 J Green, 12th Heavy Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery, formerly 190789, died 1st August 1917. He is at rest in Belgain Battery Corner Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium Also commemorated on this memorial is Lt William James Hill.
GOODIER William. Private Royal Scots It may be the following person. GOODEAR William. Private 1788, 15th Lothian Regiment, Royal Scots, killed in action 28th April 1917 aged 38. He was born at Leigh and lived at Warrington, both in Lancashire. He was the son of John and Maria of Leatherbarrow Farm, Culcheth, Lancashire and formerly of 48, Twiss Green Lane, Culcheth, occupation, Clerk. He had previously served with the 6th Manchester Territorials. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
HENSHAW John William. Private 24211, 13th Royal Welch Fusiliers died of wounds 27th March 1918. He is at rest in St Omer Souvenir Cemetery, Longuenesse, France.
BUDD George, Private 15946, 8th South Lancashire Regiment died 9th January 1918. He is at rest in Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery, Extension, France.
JOHNSON Edwin. Private 28894, 2nd South Lancashire Regiment killed in action 22nd March 1918 aged 24. and he was the son of William and Hannah of 48, Church Lane, Culcheth. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch Churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire and also on the Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the11th December 1915 aged 22 years and 176 days. He was a Foreman Taper in a cotton mill and his lived at 48, Church Lane, Culcheth with his parents. He was transferred to the army reserve and was mobilized on the 15th June 1916. He was later posted 2/2Battalion, 5th Lancashire Regiment. On the 25th November 1916 he was posted with his battalion to France. His line came under attack from German gas shells and he was affected by the gas, mild. He was treated at the 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing station on the 22nd July 1917, then on the 24th he was at 9th General Hospital and transferred to a Convalescent Hospital. Later his was discharged for duty and returned to his regiment.
SMITH William. Private 202252, 2/4th South Lancashire Regiment. Born 20th December 1879 and killed in action 27th September 1918. He was the son of John and Mary of 42, Common Lane, Culcheth. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch, churchyard, Cuklcheth, Lancashire and is at rest in Anneux British Cemetery, Nord, France.
TAYLOR Richard. Private 29795, 8th South Lancashire Regiment killed in action in France 14th June 1917 aged 20. He was the son of William and Mary Jane of 41, Shaw Street, Newchurch. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire and also on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium (The CWGC have Dick, and died on the 13th.)
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted as Dick Smith on the 26th July 1916 aged 20 and was a labourer. He lived with his parents at 41, Shaw Street, Newchurch. He embarked Southampton on the 22nd December 1916 disembarked at Harve the next day. He marched into 6th Infantry Base Depot and was posted to the 8th South Lancs on the 5th January 1917. He was killed in action on the 13th June 1917.
THOMPSON Fred. Private 40002, 2nd South Lancashire Regiment died 30th April 1918 aged 20. He was the son of James and Mary Alice of 95, Common Lane, Culcheth, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.
UNSWORTH Walter. Private South Lancashire Regiment It may be this person. UNSWORTH, Walter, Private 140731, 19th Machine Gun Corps, formerly, Private 16872, 7th South Lancashire Regiment. He enlisted on the 18th July 1915 and died on the 30th March 1918. aged 20. He was the husband of Hetty of 14, Mark Street, Mosley Common, Boothstown, near Manchester. He is at rest in Etaples Military Cemetery, France

CLEWORTH Edwin. Guardsman 2694813, 2nd Scots Guards died 22nd June 1941 aged 25. He was the son of Peter and Helena of Culcheth, Lancashire. He is at rest in El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
FAIRCLOUGH William Holden (Military Cross) Lieutenant 160181, 8th Cheshire Yeomanry, Royal Tank Regiment, Royal Armoured Corps died 3rd November 1942 aged 26. He was the son of Vincent and Ada of Kenyon, Lancashire. He is at rest in El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
HABGOOD George Arthur. Butcher 1st Class 225209, Naval Auxiliary Personnel (Merchant Navy) on H.M.S. Dasher died at sea on the 27th March 1943 aged 32. He was the son of Arthur and Edith of Liverpool. He is commemorated on the Liverpool Naval Memorial, Lancashire.
LYTHGOE Stanley. Gunner 14274779, 65th Field Regiment, Royal Artillery died 11th September 1944 aged 29. He was the son of Edward Lythgoe and of Elise Lythgoe (nee Cleworth) and he was the husband of Alice Lythgoe, of Leigh, Lancashire. He is at rest in Gradara War Cemetery, Italy.
PETERS Harold . Rifleman 14735640, 1st Airborne Battalion Royal Ulster Rifles, died 25th March 1945 aged 20. He is at rest in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany.
PICK John Clark. Private 3530502, 5th Manchester Regiment died on the 31st May 1940 aged 21 of wounds received on active service. He was the son of John William and Margaret. He is at rest in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire.
QUIRK John Clifford, Lance Corporal 3451811, 1st Lancashire Fusiliers died 30th September 1943 aged 24. He was the son of Alfred A and Elizabeth of Culcheth, Lancashire. He is at rest in Kirkee War Cemetery, India.
ROYLE Richard Edward, Gunner 1111053, H/I, 2nd Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery died 31st May 1942 aged 32. He was the son of Richard Barton Royle and Mary Susan Royle and he was the husband of Rose Royle, of Glazebury, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
SPEAKMAN Eric Vernon. Lieutenant, Royal Navy, H.M.S. Hunter died at sea on the 20th August 1944 aged 25. He was the son of Ernest Vernon Speakman and Lydia Bourne Speakman, of Culcheth, Lancashire and he was the husband of Paulette Ray Speakman. He is commemorated on the Lee-on-Solent Memorial, Hampshire.
SWINDELL James, Driver 14308848, 4th Division Signals, Royal Corps of Signals died 23rd October 1944 aged 21. He was the son of Coriano Ridge War Cemetery, Italy.
WHITFIELD Ernest Joseph. Private 3858881, 8th Manchester Regiment killed in action 10 August 1944 in Italy. He was the son of John Henry and Miriam Evelyn of Culcheth. He is commemorated on a family memorial in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire and he is at rest in Arezzo War Cemetery, Italy.
WHITTLE Cyril. Sergeant, Flight Engineer 1106196, 103 Squadron Royal Air Force killed in action 23rd April 1944 aged 23. He was the son of John William and Elizabeth of Higher Irlam, . He is at rest in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire.

HILTON, Herbert, Private 201166, 1/6th Manchester Regiment died of wounds on the 8th November 1917 aged 23. He was the son of William and Martha Hilton, of 4, Hawthorn Avenue, Glazebury, Culcheth, Lancsashire. He is at rest in Zuydcoote Military Cemetery, Nord France.
HINDLEY, Herbert. Private 16049, 5th King's Shropshire Light Infantry killed in action 25th September 1915 aged 17. He was the son of Agur Abner Hindley and Jane Alice Hindley, of 45, Mount Croft, Holcroft Lane, Culcheth, near Warrington, Lancashire. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
SEYMOUR, Alice. Private W/3287, Auxiliary Territorial Service died 11th December 1944 aged 24. She was the daughter of Rupert and Jane of Culcheth, Lancashire. She is at rest in Ghyll Undenominational Burial Ground, Barnoldswick, Yorkshire.
WALKER, Frederick. Private 35924, 1/5th Yorkshire and Lancaster Regiment, formerly 30361, Lancashire Fusiliers, died 20th March 1918 aged 20. He was the brother of William of 91, Twin Green Lane, Culcheth, near Warrington, Lancashire. He is at rest in Ploygon Wood Cemetery, Belgium.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 22nd May 1917 aged 18 years and 9 months. He lived at 18, High Park Road, Southport and he was by occupation a miller. His sister, Hellen of 10, Leek Street, off Elor Street, Manchester was his next of kin. While he was stationed at Barry he was tried by District Court Martial on the 22nd October 1917 for an offence he committed on the 5th September 1917. He did, while on active service did desert His Majesty's Force, he was given 6 months detention . On the 18th November 1917 he was posted to France and he joined his unit at Etaples on the 21st November 1917, from 34 Infantry Base Depot.
BALL, John James Flitcroft. Private 22354, 9th South Lancashire Regiment died 14th October 1918 aged 27. He was the son of William and Margaret, of Sandiway Head, Croft, near Warrington, Lancashire. He is at rest in Kirechkoi-Hortakoi Military Cemetery, Greece.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 18th April 1916 aged 24 years and 6 months. He lived with his parents at Tinckle Street, Croft, Lancashire and was employed as a cowman. He was posted to Salinica on the 7th November 1916 and he died in 80th General Hospital, Salonica of Bronchitis and Malaria on the 14th October 1918.
