Nellie CLARK. Sister. of Lady Paget’s Hospital, Skopje

Born 06 March 1888 in Cumberworth, Lincolnshire to Thomas and Elizabeth Clark, nee Tammos.
1891-1901 with her parents and siblings at the Railway Gate House, Farlesthorpe, Lincolnshire. Her father was a railway platelayer.

Died of fever and septic throat 25 December 1914 in her hospital at Skopia (Vskub) North Macedonia.

CLARK, NELLIE. Sister, nursing member of Lady Ralph Paget’s Serbian Relief Expedition. Daughter of Thomas Clark of Bisley, Alford, Co Lincoln by his wife Elizabeth, daughter of James Tammos of Hardley Norfolk. Born Cumberworth 06 March 1888. Educated, Bilsby County School and was a private nurse having passed all degrees. She joined Lady Ralph Paget’s first unit for Serbia in October 1914 and died at Skopje Serbia 25 December 1914, of septic poisoning contracted while performing her duty and was buried there. Lady Ralph Paget wrote, “She was the best nurse we had and was so very sweet and gentle that she was loved by ervery one. As for the wounded men she nursed thay simply adored her and it was touching to see their grief when they heard of her death.”

THE PASSING BELL.
We regret to record the death on Christmas Day of Miss Nellie Clark one of the nursing staff who left England for Servia under the Servian relief Fund on October 29th (1914 on S.S. Dongola) with Lady Paget. The unit to which she was attached is working at Skopia (Vskub) was buried with full military honours and her funeral was attended by the entire population of the city, who most keenly regret her death.
