MORROW Robert.

Sapper 57552 Robert MORROW. 126th Field Coy, Royal Engineers. Killed in France 20th April 1918 aged 38. He was the husband of Mary Ann of 24, Central Street, Belfast, Ireland.
He is commemorated on his wife\'s memorial in Dundonald Cemetery, County Down, Northern Ireland.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up at Belfast on the 26th October 1914 and was posted to the Royal Engineers Depot at Newark, Lincolnshire aged 35. Prior to enlistment he was living with his wife and children at 24, Central Street, Belfast, and he was a painter by occupation. He was married in Belfast on the 16th December 1899 to Mary Ann nee Abernathy. On the 5th October 1916 he embarked for the B.E.F., France to the 11th June 1916 He was sent to England suffering from Rheumatism (Sciatica) and was admitted into the Amercian Women\'s War Hospital, Paignton, Devon on the 12th June 1916 to 7th July 1917. He was then transferred to 4th Northern General Hospital, Lincoln from the 7th July to 26th October 1916. He was then transferred again to the Royal Bath Hospital Harrogate, Yorkshire where on the 31st December 1916 he was discharged fit for war service to the Depot at Newark. On the 22nd April 1917 he was posted Royal Engineers Base Depot in France . He was posted to his unit on the 8th November 1917 He was killed in action on the 20th April 1918. He left a widow 6 children. Isabella born 27th August 1900, William James born 23rd July 1902, Robert Crayton born 25th August 1903, Sarah, born 20th July 1905, David, born 24th January 1907, James Edward born 25th November 1908 and Dorothy born 22nd December 1913 all in Belfast.
