Extended Description
Private 24302903 Michael SWANICK, 1st Duke of Edinburghs Royal Regiment. He was killed by an IRA bomb during the attack on Sandes Soldiers home at Ballykinlar, Northern Ireland on the 28th October 1974 along with L/Cpl Alan Coughlan of the Royal Welch Fusiliers. The bomb was concealed in a delivery van parked on the opposite side of the road at Sandes home at the base. It exploded without warning causing the building to catch fire and collaspe. He is at rest in Landican Cemetery, Woodchurch, Birkenhead, Cheshire.
I spoke to his sister who was at the grave side today, 4th March and she gave me permission to photograph and upload the photograph of the headstone onto this site.
