MATTHEWS, John Leonard, Ordinary Seaman D/JX 570824, H.M.S. Mahratta, Royal Navy, died 25th February 1944. He was the son of John Cecil and Lily Rose of the Britannia Inn, Mold and brother of Charles Hadland who also fell. He is commemorated on a kerb stone that surrounds his brother's grave in Mold Cemetery and also on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon
