MATHEWS, Arnold

This memorial is in St Mary's churchyard, Nantwich, Cheshire

In memory of Arnold Mathews, beloved and only son of Franks and Ethel Mathews of Welsh Row House this parish. Scholar of Corpus Christi College Cambridge and Lieutenant, 14th Cheshire Regiment who gave his life for his country. He was born August 7th 1894 and was fatally wounded in action
Sanna-I-Yat on the Tigris on April 9th and died on April 14th 1916. He was Mentioned in Despatches for gallant and distinguished service in the field. Commemorated on the Basra Memorial, Iraq
