MARTIN Robert Edmund

Lieutenant Colonel, Sir Robert Edmund Martin, C.M.G., T.D., V.L., J.P., M.A., LLD., Served with the 5th Leicestershire Regiment 1908 - 1915. He commanded the 4th Battalion in 1915 He was badly wounded during fighting at Hohenzollern Redoubt, 13th October 1915.During his 36 years as Chairman of the Leicester County Council he gave outstanding help to the regiment. He was born in 1875 at Whitehaven, Cumberland to Robert Frewen and Harriet Susan. In 1911 the family were living at The Brand, Woodhouse Eaves. He died at Woodhouse Eaves, Leicestershire on the 12th June 1961. This memorial is located in Leicester Cathedral
