MARLATT Herbert St Clair (MM)

MARLATT Herbert St Clair, Lance Corporal 45025 (Military Medal) 7th Field Coy, Canadian Engineers. He was wounded in the battle of the Somme on the 4th October 1916 and died in England 3rd December 1916 aged 23 years and 10 months. He was the son of George Herbert Obahdiah and Martha Grey of Trail, British Columbia, Canada Citation for Military Medal For courage and initiative near Courcelette on 18thand20thSeptember, 1916. On September 18th, after his section sergeant had been wounded he took charge of a large working party detailed to dig a jumping-off trench some 250 yards in front of our front line, allotted them their tasks, and saw that the work was carried out. He also rendered great assistance to his section officer in the locating of jumping-off trenches. He is at rest in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cemetery, Staffordshire.
