V.A.D. Nurse Killed
Street Fatality near Cathedral at Bury.
A tragic accident occurred on Friday afternoon to a V.A,D, nurse at the Square House, Red Cross Hospital, Bury St Edmund’s Mrs Baxter, 32 of The Bungalow, Rushbrooke, who was gravely injured when cycling near the Norman Tower, Crown Street and died an hour later in the West Suffolk Hospital. Mrs Baxter was the wife of Petty Officer Frank William Baxter.
THE ACCIDENT -
Sgt K Morrison, R.A.M.C. said about 2-30pm of Friday he was travelling in an Army 3 ton truck also Crown Street. When opposite the Norman Tower, entering the bottle neck the truck overtook a cyclist and witness (Sgt Morrison) immediately afterwards told the driver, “I think was have knocked a lady off her cycle” The driver stopped at once and they ran back to find the lady in the road with the cycle by her feet. Her injuries were very extensive.
