Margaret Helen Henrietta BRISKEY, nee Bell. Nursing Sister QFX44630 AANS and posted to 9th (AWAS) Australian Women’s Army Service Barracks

Born at Mossman Queensland 26 January 1914 to Harry and Margaret Bell.

of Lethebrook, Proserpine, Queensland.

Wife of Henry Albert Briskey, of Moorooka, 281 Vulture Street, South Brisbane City, Queensland, Australia who she married 31 August 1946.

Died 15 September 1947 aged 33.

Commemorated on the Memorial Wall at Mount Thompson Crematorium, Queensland

Enlisted June 1940 at Charter Towers, aged 28 yrs and 8 mths.

She previously served as Sister Q124484 with 116 General Hospital. Unit 1st Camp Hospital.

28 January 1942 posted for duty at No 1 Australian General Hospital, Enoggera Barracks, Brisbane

01 May 1942 duty at 116 General Hospital.

25 August 1942 she reported sick at her hospital suffering from conjunctivitis. 07 August 1943 duty at 2/6th Australian General Hospital, then duty.

14 November 1944 duty at 102 Australian General Hospital, Ekibin, Brisbane.

24 February 1945 she was transferred for duty at Tara Public Hospital.

16 November 1945 posted from 2/2 Casuality Clearing Station and marched into 2/12 Australian General Hospital, Punagae. From this date she served was on duty in various places in Australia.

07 July 1945 she embarked with 2/12 Australian General Hospital on Australian Hospital Ship, Manunda from Brisbane bound for Balikpapan, Borneo. Disembarked at Balikpapan 27 July 1945. The hospital was allocated to the 7th Australian Infantry Division.

30 August 1945 she was evacuated (record does not state from where) to 2/12 AGH suffering from a carcinoma of left breast and transferred to X list (personnel who were absent from their regular units for one reason or another) She was discharged to her unit from 2/12 AGH 1 October 1945

04 January 1946 embarked Balikpapan, Borneo on AHS Manunda, disembarking Brisbane 13 January 1946 She was allotted Regimental duties at 2nd Australian Womens Hospital from 2/2 Australian Casuality Clearing Station.

12 June 1946 allotted regimental duties at No 112 Brisbane Military Hospital and ceased duty on the 28 August 1946.

08 November 1946 she was medical assessed and found she had scirrhous carcinoma of left breast. 14 November 1946 she was medically discharged to civil life suffering from Scirrhous carcinoma left breast.

Admitted into Greenslopes Hospital Brisbane where she died 15 September 1947.
