Private (Part time) 448108 Margaret Ann HEARST, 2nd County Armagh Battalion.
Shot dead by PIRA on the 8th October 1977 aged 24. She was the 3rd Greenfinch to be murdered and she a single mother and had been a member of the regiment for four years. Two PIRA gunmen had taken hostage her grandmother and young brothers at gunpoint. They waited for Margaret to return to her mobile home, when she did the PIRA burst into her mobile home situated in her garden of her parents home at Doogary, near Tynan South Armagh and sprayed her bedroom with ten shots from an automatic weapon instantly killing her as she lay in bed.
Her 3-year-old daughter narrowly escaped death when a bullet went through the toy Kermit the Frog she had been cuddling. Her PIRA killers returned to bring more tragedy when they murdered her father in his home. She was employed as a civilian clerk on a full time bases at the 2nd Volunteer Armagh Battalion Headquarters. (No burial location was given)
