M23 STANLEY JOHN HANCOCK. Lieutenant-Commander Royal Navy, retired, of Sliema. Born 7 May 1890 Aston, Warwickshire to Thomas Henry and Elizabeth Hancock nee Slee. 1901 he was residing with his parents and siblings at 3 Warstock Buildings, Balsall Heath, Worcestershire. 1 June 1918 at Alverstoke parish church, Hampshire he married Dorothy Violet Tosdevin of Winchester, Hampshire. Enlisted 7 May 1908 on HMS Ganges as Boy 2nd Class 235911, civilian occupation, errand boy. He went up through the ranks promoted to Petty Officer 5 February 1916, Gunner 14 June 1918 and Commissioned Gunner 21 January 1920. 19 June 1951 he disembarked at Liverpool from Malta with a female called Kathleen aged 59 years, housewife. His wife was Dorothy who died 1976. Forwarding address was given as “Headcorn” 16 Manor Lane, Selsey, Chichester, Sussex. Occupation retired admiralty. Died 5th August 1961.
