BARBER, Charles Private 2594, 3rd Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) killed in action 24th May 1915. Native of Manchester resident of Longdson, Staffordshire Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

BARBER, Arthur Private 7250, 1st Cheshire regiment died of wounds 1st January 1915. aged 29. Son of Mr. Isaac. and Hannah nee Reade ; husband of Lottie Lee (formerly Barber nee Williamson), of 9, New Bridge Lane, Stockport. Native of Ancoates, Manchester. Buried at Cabaret Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France (Dissclaimer. It may not be the correct record for Arthur. The only connection I could find is Manchester. I can only assume they are brothers).

DONE, Enoch Driver 99840, Royal Field Artillery died 9th May 1915. Native of Tunstall, Staffordshire. Buried at Ballincollig Military Cemetery, County Cork, Ireland.

HAMMERSLEY, George Private 20349, 2nd Royal Munster Fusiliers died 22nd October 1918 aged 24. Son of George William and Ellen Hammersley, of Holly Cottage, Longsdon, Buried at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France.

MEIR, Gilbert Edwin Lance Corporal 2899, C.Coy, 1/5th North Staffordshire Regiment died 1st July 1916 aged 24. Son of Joseph and Edith Meir, of The Barn, Grosvenor Place, Wolstanton, Staffordshire and brother of Wilfred Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France (This memorial has Gilbert).

MEIR, Wilfred Ault Captain, B. Coy, 8th North Staffordshire Regiment, died 10th April 1918 aged 24. Mentioned in Despatches. Son of Joseph and Edith Meir, of "The Barn," Grosvenor Place, Wolstanton, Staffs and brother of Gilbert. M.Sc., Beyer Fellow of the University of Manchester. Buried at Wulverghem Lindenhoek Road Military Cemetery, Heuvelland, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. (The memorial has Wilfred).

MYATT, Thomas Pioneer WR/205314, Railway Construction Troops Depot, Royal Engineers died 18th November 1918 aged 20. Son of the late Thomas and Sarah Myatt of Longsdon. Buried at Bordon Military Cemetery, Hampshire.

OWEN, Harold Private 57656, D.Coy 2/4th York and Lancaster Regiment died 29th August 1918 aged 20. Son of William Bratt and Frances Owen of Longsdon. Buried at Ligny-Sur-Canche British Cemetery, France.

PLANT, Arthur It may be this person. No record could be found that connects with Longdson and surrounds. However the following may be one of the same. Private 72126, James Arthur Plant 5th (P.O.W.) Battalion (Territorials) Devonshire Regiment killed in action 12th September 1918. Native of Cheddleton, near Leek and enlisted at Leek, near Longsdon, Staffordshire. Buried at Ruyaulcourt Military Cemetery, France.

SWEETMORE, Harold Hammersley Driver 89827, C. Battery, 92nd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery died 26th February 1915 aged 18. Son of James and Lydia of The Mount, Dinerth Road, Rhos on Sea, Colwyn Bay, Wales. Native of Longdson Buried at St Chads Church cemetery, Longsdon, Staffordshire. (This memorial has Harold).

SALT, Frederick Sapper 95230, 130th Field Coy, Royal Engineers, died 27th August 1916 aged 21. Son of Frederick James of Nether Stanlow Farm, Longsdon. Buried at St Michael churchyard Extension, Horton, Staffordshire.

TATTON, Frank Private 203041, 1/5th North Staffordshire Regiment died 25th February 1918 aged 23. Buried at St Edward the Confessor Churchyard, Cheddleton, Staffordshire.

TRYTHALL, Leonard James Rifleman 652152, 1/21st First Surrey Rifles, died 15th September 1916 aged 34. Son of James Heaton and Mary, of Wall Grange, Stoke on Trent (The memorial has Len). Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. His brother Gunner 2/1941 Arthur James, New Zealand Field Artillery died 12th October 1916 aged 21. He is buried at Etaples Military Cemetery, France.

TURNER, Frederick William Private 28287, 11th Lancashire Regiment died 11th May 1918 aged 23. Son of Mr and W H Turner of Brooklyn, Longsdon. Buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France (Memorial has Fred).

LOMAS, Harvey Private 4804655, 7th Hampshire Regiment died 4th October 1944. Buried at Oosterbeek War Cemetery, Arnhem, Netherlands.

MASSEY, Sydney Charles Lieutenant, 4th Royal Marines, died 27th January 1942 aged 32. Son of George Henry and Martha Anne Massey, of Longsdon. Scholar of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (Memorial has Sidney) Buried in the churchyard of St Chad, Longsdon.
