Lilian Ada WOOD. Lilian Ada WOOD. Died 31st May 1899 aged 3 month daughter of Sgt Drummer Harry Wood, 3rd Lancashire Fusiliers and Ada Jane, resident and died at Mtarfa, Malta. Laid to rest 1st June 1899 at Imtarfa Military Cemetery, Malta. In 1911 her parents and siblings were living at Drill Hall, Baron Street, Rochdale, Lancashire. Her father, Harry was then serving with the 6th Lancashire Fusiliers as Sergeant Major, drill instructor. He joined up on the 30th November 1886 aged 15 and 2 months into the Grenadier Guards with army number 691, transferred to the 3rd Lancashire Fusiliers on the 7th May 1898 as private 6345 and went up through the ranks. He was stationed in Malta 26th August 1898 to 30th November 1901. There is an army record for him (Pensions, Ancestry.co.uk)

Malta 2 Jan 1900 Mtarfa (Imtarfa) Cemetery was consecrated by the Rt Rev the Bishop of Gibraltar on Tuesday 2 Jan 1900. He, the Governor General Sir Francis Grenfell and Major General Lord Congleton commanding the Infantry Brigade were present.

Also in attendance were: the Senior Chaplain the Rev Alfred Malim, The Rev D. Nickerson, The Rev W. C. Parr (in charge of Mtarfa), The Rev M. W. Churchward, and The Rev M Jones. The first recorded burial was that of Ada Wood, aged 3 mths, daughter of Sgt Wood 3rd/Lancashire Fusiliers. The service was conducted by the Rt Rev W C Parr on 1 June 1899.
