The wooden cross was placed on the grave of
Captain George Ronald LANE by the second Battalion of the Coldstream Guards after the action of 15th September 1916. It was brought home
on the termination of the Great War by his
father and mother who had it placed over
the memorial tablet below
Captain Adjutant George Ronald LANE died aged 22.
son of Major General, Sir Ronald B LANE K.C.B.,
K.C.V.O., & Lady LANE of Carlton Hall, Saxmundham
He was previously wounded in 1914 and is buried
at Guards Cemetery, Lesboeufs
