He was nicknamed "Woodbine Willie", during WW1 for giving Woodbine Cigarettes with spiritual aid to the injured and dying soldiers. 7th son of William Studdert Kennedy and Jeanett Ankettell. He won the Military Cross at Messines Ridge, after running into no mans land to help the wounded during the attack on the German frontline
