K017 James O'NEIL. Ordinary Seaman 216274, Royal Navy on HMS Queen. Born 11 April 1886 at Belfast, Ireland. Enlisted 23 July 1901 on HMS Black Prince. Occupation prior to enlistment, message boy. Died 31st August 1905 aged 19 years from a fractured skull. Fell overboard into a barge alongside from the forecastle of his ship (upper deck) while hoisting in sand. His head struck the coaming of the boat. His Mother of 3 Milton Street, Belfast was informed of his death 2 September 1905. Memorial shows surname as O’Neil, Naval record show O’Neill.
