Underneath this spot are interred the remains of Major General, John TOMBS, Honourable E.I.C.S. (East Indies Company's Service), Colonel of the 6th Regiment of Foot, (Bengal Light Cavalry) (born 1775) died at Malta on the 30 October 1848 aged 73. Served in India for about 50 years as a Cavalry Officer. His wife was called Mary nee Remington. His son Sir Henry TOMBS (V.C.) was born 10th November 1824 at sea.
