John Thomas Gordon HIGGINSON. 2nd Lieutenant, (Pilot under training) 37th Squadron, Royal Flying Corps died 1st November 1917 aged 19 at Grantham, Lincolnshire . His death was caused by parts of the engine whilst airborne breaking away for some unknown reason. The pilot had complete control of the machine until the engine broke up and nosed dived into the ground from a 1,000 feet and burst into flames. The accident happened over Spittlegate, Grantham and the pilot was not to blame for the accident. Born in 1898 at Ely, to William and Sarah Jane of (1901) Lynfield Terrace, Ely, Cambridgeshire. In 1911 the family had moved to 7th Winchester Avenue, Leicester. 1913-1915 he was employed by the London and North Western Railway Company. At rest in Crewe Cemetery, Cheshire.
