In memory of Troop Sergeant Major John STRATFORD. Born 1829.
Joined 14th Light Dragoons 1846. Served in Punjab Campaign 1848 - 49. Persia 1857. Indian Mutiny 1858. Sergeant Instructor Staffordshire Yeomanry 1887. National Reserve 1911-14. Died at Wolverhampton 16th January 1932 aged 102 years, the Oldest Soldier in the British Empire. Erected by his Comrades of the 14/20th Hussars
