A.03.03 John RYDER. Corporal, 26890, 24th Company, Royal Engineers. Born 1873 at Ugborough, Devon to Richard and Cassandra Ann Weymouth Ryder nee Couch. Enlisted 19 September 1892, civilian occupation, Stone mason. He married Beatrice May Kendall on the 25 August 1908 at St Marks Church, Devonport.
He committed suicide on Monday afternoon by cutting his throat with a razor in Malta 27th December 1909. aged 36 years. His widow was granted a gratuity on the 28 January 1910.

A.03.03 Walter James REID. Sapper 25226 Royal Engineers. Born in Portsmouth, Hampshire to Mary and Sergeant Major Mitchell Reid, Royal Engineers. In 1881 he was residing with his parents and siblings in married quarters at the School of Military Engineering, Brompton Barracks, Gillingham, Kent. 1891 a boarder at the home of widow Lydia Cook at 5 Highbury Terrace, Head Street, Halstead, Essex, occupation, carpenter, joiner. Enlisted 17 August 1891, civilian occupation, carpenter. Died at Floriana, Malta 11th November 1910. His brothers’ Mitchell and James were granted a gratuity 20 December 1910.
A.03.03 Herbert Bennett SAUNDERS. Corporal 3990 63rd Royal Garrison Artillery. Born 23 May 1879 and baptism 1 May 1881 aged 1 year at Old Buckenham, Norfolk to William and Mary Ann Saunders, nee Bird. In 1881 and 1891 he was residing with his parents and siblings near The Lodge, Stratford Road, Old Buckenham, Norfolk. Enlisted 1 December 1896, civilian occupation, school master. He committed suicide by shooting himself with a service rifle on the 20th December 1910. He had only been discharged from hospital on the 19th
A joint gratuity was granted to his mother, brothers William and Wilfred and sisters Mary and Eniey! The 17 February 1911.
