John McDONALD

Extended Description
John MCDONALD. Leading Stoker 298402, Royal Navy on HMS Prince of Wales, aged 26 years. Born 11th August 1880 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, enlisted 2rd August 1901, occupation prior to enlistment, labourer. Died 16th August 1907 aged 26 of a fracture to base of his skull. He was fitting a discharged plug to the starboard torpedo tube when he fell into the dry dock of a distance of 37 feet. The verdict of the Court of Inquiry found that that the cause of death was accidental and that no blame was attributable to anyone. His father was informed of his death on the 7th August 1907.
This stone was erected in beloved memory by the brothers of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes ( R.A.O.B. Malta) as a token of deepest regret. May his soul rest in the Lord.
N.B. His memorial shows surname as MacDonald. Naval record show McDonald
