The mortal remains of the distinguished soldier, John LANE Esq.
"In the troubles of the late civil war under Charles I, and afterwards in the Dutch war under Charles II, he discharged, most honourably the duties of a Colonel in the Royalist Army and was in the Royalist army since 1642.
He was the deliverer on both King and Country; for when Charles II, after the battle of Worcester, he had escaped with great difficulty, and was strictly search after, with exemplary loyalty, fidelity, courage, and eminent hazard of capital punishment from the snares of a tyrannous userper, and the treachery of partisans he bravely rescued him". Born 24th March 1609, died greatly lamented, August 31st 1667.
This memorial is in St Peter's Church, Wolverhampton.
