This tablet is erected by his brother officers as a tribute of their affection.
To the memory of Captain John GILBY of the 81st Regiment of Infantry. Bachelor of Arts of the University of Cambridge who was drowned whilts in the execution of his duty at the disembarkation of the depot at Skinburness in the county, on the 19th September 1837 in the 32nd year of his age.
Beloved and respected by all who knew him.
