Extended Description
John COLLINS. Leicestershire Regiment. Western Front Veteran. Always remembered

If the following information does not relate to John, please let me know and it will be removed.

He may have been Private 10679 John Thomas COLLINS, 6th Leicestershire Regiment, formerly 10895 South Staffordshire Regiment, died of wounds on the Western Front 13th July 1916 aged 19 and was the son of Samuel and Ellen of 38, Sydney Road, Small Heath, Birmingham. He is at rest in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L\'Abbe, Somme, France.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted at Lichfield aged 19 years and 7 months on the 25th August 1914 and was posted to the South Staffordshire Regiment as Private 10679. His occupation prior to enlistment was a warehouseman. An entry shows that he was transferred on the 28th, I can only assume that he was transferred to the Leicestershire Regiment. He lived with his parents at 38 Sydney (Sidney) Road He gave his father as his next of kin and he put his father as living at 165, Garrison Lane, Small Heath. On the 13th July 1916 he was shot in the right side of his abdomen whilst in action. He was treated at 36 Casuality Clearing Station and the transferred to 64 Field Ambulance the same day where he died from his wounds. This memorial is part of the Memory Tree at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire.
