John Brown FINDLAY. Bowl Wiper Z-231440 (A Wiper is a junior cadet in the engine department of a ship) US Merchant Navy on Socony-Vacuum Oil Tanker SS Yankee Arrow. Born 9 September 1924 at Asbestose, Les Source, Quebec, Canada to James and Elizabeth Findlay. Residing with his parents at 223 Seven City Street, Garden City Long Island N.4 USA. 1920 residing with his parents at Eleventh Street, Manhattan, New York. 1940 9th Avenue, Manhattan, New York.

Joined the ship 8 March 1943. He received multiple burns from burning oil when the ship hit a mine 3 August 1943 in the Mediterranean. He was taken to 90th General Hospital Imtarfa, Malta where he died 6 August 1943.

Laid to rest 7 August 1943 in Plot F. Grave 114 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
Now at rest in Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial, Lazio, Italy

Burial surname given as Finley by the British Admiralty.
