@28th61st

I have just received the following information via email

The warship was not Sakai, but SAKAKI; and she was NOT sunk, but torpedoed and suffered
serious damage, in that her bow was blown off. Remarkably, Sakaki remained afloat, and with the assistance of the British destroyer, HMS. Ribble, which was the first on the scene, and Matsu, her Japanese sister ship, and other Allied vessels, she was towed backwards to the British base at Suda Bay, Crete. Eventually, in July she was towed to Piraeus, where she was repaired, and returned to service with the Second Detached Squadron some ten months later.. I have transcriptions of the eulogy made at t11th. June 1918, the 1st anniversary of the attack, and the telegram sent by the Navy Minister on behalf of the Government..

I have asked the source of the information if they would be willing to share the transcripts.

Thanks for that. As the information I could find was very sketchy I (wrongly) presumed she had sunk. Hopefully the informant will permit sharing the info. I have removed the offending info.

We can only work with what info is available mate, thankfully the source of the info saw fit to pass this on. If he shares the transcriptions with us all the better :)
