WEIR James. Private M2/020754 Army Service Corps. Died 19th May 1918 aged 33. He was the husband of Catherine of 42, London Road, Belfast. He is at rest in Dundonald Cemetery, Dundonald, County Down, Northern Ireland.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He joined up and was posted to Grove Park, Northampton on the 9th December 1914. He gave his occupation a motor lorry driver, aged 30, and lived at 42, London Road, Belfast He fought in France from the 11th December 1914 to 13th March 1916. He was discharged from the army and no longer physically fit for war service on the 5th January 1917. The document that may have recorded his disability did not survive. He was awarded the War Badge and Certificate at Woolwich Dockyard on the 23rd December 1916. Discharged noted as sickness. He married Catherine nee Jemieson on the 30th June 1909 at Belfast. They had three children. Eliza jane Allen born 21st April 1910, George, born 17th January 1915 and Catherine R J born 24th July 1915 all in Belfast.
