James Thomas HAYWARD. Ordinary Seaman 235885, Royal Navy on HMS Goliath. Born 20th March 1890 (Birth Registered June 1891) at Portsea, Hampshire. He may have been the son of Charles and Eliza of 166 Newcombe Road, Portsmouth. Enlisted 26th February 1906, occupation prior to enlistment, errand boy. Died in a hospital in Malta 16th November 1908 aged 18 from rupture of his intestine. He fell into the bottom on No 7 dry dock while cleaning the side of the ship in Malta. Court of Inquiry found no blame attributable. Inquest verdict, accidental death. His mother was informed of his death on the 17th November 1908. At rest in Plot B Grave 164, Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta
