SHACKLETON James Private SS/16894,(CWGC have 16984) A Coy, Southport, Army Service Corps died 7th April 1917 aged 49. He was born in 1869 to Helliwell and Jane in 1871 he was living with hs parents and siblings at Ambler Thorn,, Northowran, Son of Mrs Jane Ball At rest in Stonefall Cemetery, Harrogate, Yorkshire.
Some notes from what remains of his army records. He joined up on the 17th September 1915 at Aldershot aged 46 as Private 16894. He lived with his mother now called Jane Ball at 10 Broughton Street, Halifax, Yorkshire, occupation labourer. He embarked for Alexandria, Egypt on the 23rd October 1915 to 1st April 1916, then to France from the 2nd April 1916, 26th December 1916. On the 27th December 1916 he was sent on furlough (leave) to his home pending transfer to the Army Reserve Class P. While on leave he was admitted into St Luke's War Hospital, Halifax, Yorkshire before he was transferred. He died at 6 pm in the hospital of pneumonia. His mother Mrs
