James McCUTCHEON. Rifleman 42692, B Coy 3/3rd New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
Born 10 April 1883 to Andrew and Mary Elizabeth McCutcheon of Ballywatticock, County Down. Irish 1901 census with his parents and siblings at 6 Ballywatticock, Newtownards County Down occupation farmer son employed by his father. 1911 his parents and siblings were residing at 38 Ballywatticock. James was not at home.
Died of wounds 18 September 1917
Commemorated on a family memorial in Movilla Cemetery Newtownards County Down, Northern Ireland. At rest in Etaples Military Cemetery, France.
Notes from his service records
Enlisted 2 January 1917. Next of Kin his father of ‘Edenvale’ Cunningburn, Strangford Lough near Newtownards. Embarked 2 April 1917 from Wellington New Zealand disembarking at Devonport, Devon 10 June 1917. Embarked for France 6 July 1917 and marched into New Zealand Base Camp, Etaples France. 9 August 1917 joined B Coy in the field. Whilst at the front he received a gunshot wound to his right shoulder 12 September 1917, treated at 1st Australian Field Ambulance and then admitted the same day into 17th Casualty Clearing Station. 14 September 1917 admitted into 56 General Hospital Etaples where he died of his injuries at 12-15am 18 September 1917.
Buried in Etaples Cemetery by Rev, J.A. Coullie.
