James HOOD

Extended Description
Captain 489766 James HOOD, Officer in Command of C Coy, 5th County Londonderry Battalion.
Source for the following. Issue 20, The Troubles.
He was shot dead by the PIRA outside his home at Straidarran near Feeny County Londonderry after finishing his duty on the 4th January 1973 aged 49.
He had returned home with his son, also UDR and as he approached the back door of his house on foot he was shot dead by single bullet to his head. His son who had been parking the car found him.
He is commemorated on a tree memorial plaque at the UDR Memorial Ulster Ash Grove, National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire.
