GALLON James. Gunner 27739, 98th Battery, 1st Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, died 15th October 1917 in Imtarfa Hospital of Nephritis, Malta. Born in 1895 at Penshaw, County Durham to James and Florence Amy of Pensher, Fencehouses, Co Durham. His father died in 1905 at North Biddick Colliery. His mother remarried to Thomas Henry Marshall, of 3 Rainton Street, Old Penshaw, Co. Durham.
Some brief notes from what remains of his army records. He joined up at Newcastle on Tyne on the 2nd September 1914 aged 19 years and 11 months. Embarked from Southampton on the 12th May 1915 disembarking the next day at Harve. Embarked from France on the 19th November 1915, for 1st Brigade, Salonica disembarking on the 29th December 1915. On the 3rd June 1916 he fell ill with dysentery in Salonica and was admitted into 21st Stationary Hospital, Salonica. On the 10th August 1916 he was sent to All Saints Convalescent Camp Malta and returned to his unit in Salonica on the 31st October 1916. 9th March 1917 he was admitted into 43rd General Hospital, Salonica with dysentery. Transferred on Hospital Ship, Dover to Imtarfa Hospital, Malta on the 9th March 1917 admitted into hospital on the 14th March. He was reported to be seriously ill on the 20th May 1917, 7th July 1917 removed from the seriously ill list. On the 10th October 1917 seriously ill suffering from nephritis, 12th dangerously ill and 15th died of nephritis.
PARKIN George. Driver, 7151, C Battery, 115th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. He was taken ill in Salonica and died in St Lawrence Hospital, Malta 11th October 1917. Son of Charles and Emily, nee Goodinson and husband of Elizabeth
