FAULKNER James. Sergeant Major, 6624, Clerical Section, 26th Division, Royal Garrison Artillery, died 5th November 1916. Born in the parish of St Annes's, Belfast City, husband of Eleanor.
HILL Joseph. Private, 6596, 2nd Battalion, The Buffs, East Kent Regiment, died 5th November 1916. Native of Olbury, Worcestershire, lived in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, son of Henry and Elizabeth of 40 McKean Road, Oldbury, Worcestershire, husband of Sarah.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up on the 5th September 1914 aged 28 years and 97 days. His occupation was a roller in a shovel factory. He lived with his wife Sarah Nee Windsor who he married on the 30th May 1909 at St Paul's, Burnt Tree, Tipton, Westmidlands, and his children at 90, Littleton Street, West Bromwich, West Midlands. He was posted to the 3rd Cavalry Reserve (Dragoon Guards) as Private 1799. On the 2nd June 1915 he was transferred as Private 6596 to the East Kent Regiment, The Buffs. He embarked for France on the 15th June 1915, on the 23rd October 1915 he embarked Marseilles and disembarked at Alexandria on the 31st October 1915 where he was posted to C Coy, 2nd Buffs, 28th Division, Salonica Force.
Brief notes from his Casualty Form - Active Service
5th November 1915, Suffering from diarrhoea, treated at No 17 General Hospital, Alexander.
6th December 1915 transferred to Luxor Convalescent , Egypt for No 17 General Hospital.
5th March 1916, discharged from Luxor to Sidi Bishr, Alexandria, fit for duty.
20th April 1916 at the front at Lake Michigan Salonica.
21st August 1916 he was admitted to No 27 Casualty Clearing Station suffering from malaria. At date unknown he was transferred No 5 General Hospital Salonica.
4th September 1916, discharged from No 5 General Hospital fit for duty.
14th September 1916 he was suffering from albuminuria (to much protein in the urine) No location was given as to where he was being treated on this and the proceeding days.
20th September he was admitted into No 43, General Hospital, Salonica
14th October 1916 he was a transferred from No 43, G.H. to Hospital Ship, Llandovey Castle to Malta. He was admitted into Cottonera Hospital, Malta the same day suffering from dysentery. He was admitted seriously ill, dangerously ill on the 27th October 1916 and died of dysentery on the 5th November 1916.
6th November 1916 he was laid to rest, service officiated by Chaplain, Reverend, J M Vincent.
He left a widow and the following children -
Doris May, born 21st June 1910, Elsie, born 28th June 1913 and Myra Elizabeth born 7th March 1916. In 1911 he was living with his wife and child, Doris at 4, Canal Side, Simpson Street, Oldbury, occupation a metal shovel maker.
LEWIS William Herbert. Private, 50144, Canadian Army Medical Corps, died 2nd November 1916.
