Captain James Brown KEENAN. 2nd Irish Guards

Born 10 May 1895 in Rosarios, Argentina. Son of Santiago and Elena Keenan, nee Browne. Attended Downside College, Bath and Trinity College, Cambridge where he joined the OTC. He was commissioned into the Irish Guards February 1915. France 16 August 1915. He was injured during bombing practice 2 March 1916 when he wounded in the hand by a premature burst, four men wounded and one of them died. He was wounded in the thigh by a shell splinter near Ypres in July 1917 and again October 1918 in the face by a piece of shell, the sole casualty at Battalion Headquarters at St Python on the Selle. Ten other ranks killed, forty-two wounded, of whom two afterwards died, and two missing—fifty-five in total. 1920 it was gazetted that he was awarded the Medal of La Solidaridad 3rd Class. Promoted to Captain January 1923 and resigned his commission later that year. He passed away in the registration district of Greenwich 1983
