He resided at Edenmore, Florence, County Fermanagh
He is commemorated on a Tree Memorial Plaque at the UDR Memorial, Ulster Ash Grove, National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas Staffordshire.

He was shot dead by two teenage PIRA gunmen on a stolen motor cycle as he was delivering bread to a shop in Garrison, Co Fermanagh on Saturday 19th May 1979 aged 64. The pillion passenger produced an Armalite rifle and shot him at point blank range. The killers escaped towards the Co Leitrim border 400 yards away.
