Jack Henry WEINGARTH. Lieutenant, 4th Squadron, Australian Flying Corps died 4th February 1919 aged 26. He was born on the 17th May 1892 to John L. and Gertrude Weingarth, of 10, Castlereagh St., Sydney, New South Wales. At rest in Leighterton Church Cemetery, Gloucestershire.
Some notes from his army records
He joined up on the 22nd January 1917 into the Australian Flying Corps aged 24 and 8 months. Occupation, Civil engineer (Licenced Surveyor) On the 4th February 1919 aged 26 he was killed in a plane crash. He was the pilot instructor, of a duel control Avro E 1896 along with pupil,( under instructions) William Henry Millard, 2nd Lieutenant, 5th Training Squadron, A.F.C. The accident was due to insufficient flying speed when turning steeply, plus there was not enough petrol, so the pilot could not make use of the engine whilst turning. The pilot had to a forced landing at approximately 4-50 pm. The impact killed the pilot and seriously injured 2nd Lt Millard. The fuselage was completely smashed from front to back seat.
