March 1st, 2013 is the 13 year anniversary of the battle for height 776, which saw the 6th company (104th regiment, 76 Guards Airborne Division) hold the Argun Valley in Chechnya against a force of mujahideen numbering well over 1,200. Of the 91 men on the heights, 84 were killed in action in the course of a 16 hour gun battle but managed to inflict casualties of 500-600, preventing many of the foreign fighters remaining in Russia from fleeing the main body of advancing federal forces. 22 men (including all the officers and 9 enlisted men, received the medal of Hero of the Russian Federation (posthumously).
