Well known Nurses’s death -
We regret to announce the death from septicaemia at Hylands Military Hospital Chelmsford of Miss Hilda Ayre Smith, daughter of late Dr. R. Ayre Smith and Mrs Ayre Smith of 15 Alleyn Road, Dulwich. S.E., aged 37 years. The deceased lady was a well-known trained nurse at the hospital which is generously run by Sir Daniel and Lady Gooch for wounded soldiers and she had been there for over a year. She was devoted to her profession and highly esteemed by the doctors and patients and she contracted septicaemia, or blood poisoning through dressing the seriously wounded cases which are dealt with at Hylands. When she became ill, she received every attention from Dr Gimson and other medical gentlemen and from a London specialist, but nothing could be done to save her and she passed away in forty-eight hours.
The funeral took place in Norwood Cemetery on Saturday.
