HIGGS Reuben Edwin, Private 18254 10th North Staffordshire Regiment died 22nd April 1916 aged 43. He is at rest in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Cemetery, Staffordshire. There are only two pages remain of his army record. He joined up on the 2nd April 1915 at Stoke-on-Trent and was posted to the army reserve. He was aged 39, worked as a steam crane driver and lived with his wife and child at 39, Bedford Street, Basford, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. He was married on the 5th March 1894 at St Giles Church, Newcastle-under-Lyme to spinster, Edna Pepper. Their daughter, Mary Amanda was born on the 19th July 1906 at Basford. He was mobilised on the 9th August 1915 to the 10th Reserve Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment and he was discharged on the 13th March 1916 as being no longer physically fit for war service under Para 392 (XVI) King's Regulations.
