Henry George MARCHANT. Petty Officer 2nd Class 178419, Royal Navy of HMS Aboukir. Born 4th December 1877 at Bristol, Gloucestershire to Henry and Mary Ann nee Lynes, enlisted 16th February 1894, occupation prior to enlistement, Labourer. Died 14th September 1907 aged 29 on Royal Fleet Auxiliary Ship, Maine from Navarone, Greece, of multiple injuries, concussion and fractured skull due to an accident on board collier Milldale on the 12th September 1907 caused by top end of derrick falling upon him while preparing for coaling. Court of inquiry found that whilst the mishap was not due to culpable negligence. Leading Seaman 170289 Davis and Able Seaman 229856 Heath were to blame for not keeping sufficent strain on the wire while the derrick was being lowered by winch His widow Ada Emily nee Hill who he married 25th August 1906 st Stoke Bishop, Gloucestershire was informed of his death 16th September 1907. At rest in Plot B Grave 148, Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta.
