Commemorated on his parents memorial in St Peter’s Churchyard, Hartshorne, Derbyshire. At rest in Poperinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium

CARVER Walter Cecil Stanhope. Private 17011, 9th Sherwood Foresters killed in action 10 August 1915 aged 43 Husband of Fanny Cope (formerly Carver), nee Brookes of 110, Pear Tree Street., Derby. His widow was granted a war gratuity 7 January 1916 revised 10 July 1919, now Mrs Cope. Commemorated on the helles Memorial, Turkey, including Gallipoli.


EATON John. Private 21555, 6th King's Shropshire Light Infantry, formerly 85751, Lancers, died of wounds 28 June 1918 aged 27 years. Son of Elizabeth Eaton, of The Cross, Repton, Derby. At rest in Neuf-Brisach Communal Cemetery Extension, France.


GILBERT John William. Private 26478, 1st North Staffordshire Regiment killed in action 31 July 1917, aged 31 at Ypres. Born in 1886 at Wantage Berkshire lived in Burton-on-Trent, enlisted at Church Gresley. His widow, Mary E was granted a war gratuity 9 November 1917 revised 16 December 1919. At Rest in China Wall, Perth Cemetery, Belgium.


GOTHERIDGE John. Gunner 177196, 2nd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery died of wounds 30 October 1918 aged 31 at 61st Casualty Clearing Station, France. Son of Samuel and Eliza His father John was granted a war gratuity 24 February 1919 revised 3 May 1919 and again 12 January 1920. At rest in Premont British Cemetery, France.


HALLAM James Corporal 60641, 15th Sherwood Foresters killed in action 28 March 1918 aged 20 years. Baptised 28 January 1898, parents James and Sarah of Hartshorne. In 1911 he was living with his parents at Screw Mill Row, Hartshorne, Derbyshire. At rest in Assevillers New British Cemetery, Somme, France.


HYDE Frederick Thomas Mott. (Mentioned in Despatches. Gazetted 16 August 1915) Able Seaman CH/J/21153, Royal Navy on HMS Lord Nelson died 25 April 1915 aged 19. Son of Mary Wilkinson, of 177, Blake Street, Mansfield, Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. Native of Hartshorne, Burton-on-Trent. His mother was informed of his death 18 May 1915. At rest in V Beach Cemetery, Turkey including Gallipoli.


HYDE Samuel Edward. Private 23368, 9th Sherwood Foresters died 3 October 1916. Son of Thomas Hyde and Bessie, nee Cox, of Screwmill Row, Hartshorne, Burton-on-Trent. In 1911 he was living with his parents and his siblings, one being Thomas Harold near Rodney Inn, Hartshorne, Derbyshire. At rest in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.

In 1911 he was living with his parents and his siblings, one being Samuel Edward near Rodney Inn, Hartshorne, Derbyshire. Husband of Leah, remarried to Betteridge, of Bagnall Cottages, Hartshorne, Derbyshire. Commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.


KING Thomas. Lance Sergeant 20906, 4th Grenadier Guards killed in action 25 September 1916 aged 25 years. Husband of Elsie Annie King, of Sandcliffe Terrace, Lower Midway, Burton-on-Trent. Native of Midway. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
