DEXTER Harry. Private, 6107, 11th Div. Cyclists Coy., Army Cyclist Corps, died 8th November 1915, aged 22 years. He was the son of Richard and Mary Ann Dexter, of 7a East Street, Retford, Nottinghamshire.

Some notes from what remains of his army record. He joined up aged 21 into the Sherwood Foresters. He was by occupation a labourer and he was living at Retford. He was posted to the Sherwood Foresters as Private 133729 (date not known) and transferred to the Cyclist Coy 11th Division on the 1st March 1915. On the 1st July 1915 he embarked for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force while he was there he was dangerously ill with pneumonia. He was sent to a hospital in Malta where he died on the 8th November 1915
On the day the photograph was taken the grave stone had a poppy wreath, with a message, placed on it. "To Great Uncle Harry, found you at last, you were never forgotten. Gran, your sister Harriet would have been so proud that we found you. Steph, xxx. With love from Retford."
